Catholic Lifesaver Corps

A collaboration of archdiocesan Mental Health Ministry, Youth Ministry, Fulcrum Foundation, and Catholic Schools

Catholic Lifesaver Corps (CLC) is a team of high school students (Juniors) who will be trained as facilitators of the 4-hour LivingWorks safeTALK suicide prevention program. They will, in turn, offer regular trainings in their respective schools and nearby parishes to educate fellow students on the signs of suicidal ideation and the necessary steps to keep their peers safe.

LivingWorks

LivingWorks is the world’s leading suicide intervention training company. Website: https://www.livingworks.net/. LivingWorks believes suicide is preventable and that everyone can learn to play a life-saving role. With an array of integrated training programs to meet every need, LivingWorks has been providing communities organizations with suicide prevention solutions for over 35 years.

safeTALK

safeTALK is a 4-hour face-to-face workshop featuring powerful presentations, audiovisuals, and skilled practice. Participants will learn how to prevent suicide by recognizing signs, engaging someone, and connecting them to an intervention resource for further support. Webpage: https://www.livingworks.net/safetalk

Catholic Schools are invited to apply for our pilot cohort, which will consist of student and adult reps from 5 schools in the archdiocese. The application is below.

Participating schools will be asked to select two students and two adults to join the cohort. (We would strongly encourage schools to include a diversity of genders, races, ethnicities, etc. in their selections. Adults could be school counselors, teachers, administrators, or parents.) Students will take the lead on facilitating the actual safeTALK workshops, while adults will take the lead on managing an actual intervention, should one surface during a workshop.

All cohort members will receive ample training. Here are the orientation and training details:
