Agape - Food Bank & Services

"The measure of our compassion lies not in our service of those on the margins but only in our willingness to see ourselves in kinship with them."

- Father Greg Boyle

The Social Services of Agape

Food bank

Agape's weekly food bank during the summer provides culturally specific food in addition to diapers, hygiene supplies, clothing, toys, books, backpacks and school supplies. In 2019 we served an average of 158 families weekly, in 2020 an average of 98 families weekly, & in 2021 an average of 113 families weekly.

Our incredible partners include Bellingham Food Bank, Ferndale Food Bank, Project Hope Food Bank, Kids Need Books and Third Christian Reformed Church.

Health and human services

With the goal of making our food bank a resource hub, we have begun inviting partner agencies to provide services and resources beyond our capabilities.

Our incredible partners include SeaMar Community Health, Labor & Industries Language Access Program, Community to Community, and Opportunity Council Rental Assistance.

Hospitality table

The goal of the hospitality table is to increase the joyful, dignified and relational aspects of the food bank. Each week, our volunteers help us prepare different juices or fruit to distribute to the families.

Our long-term goal is to provide a full, culturally specific meal during the food bank.

Summer enrichment

Multiple times per week, Agape facilitates educational and recreational activities for the children of farmworkers. Activities include reading, science experiments, arts and crafts, dodgeball, soccer and a community meal.

Our incredible partners include Northwest Educational Service District 189, SeaMar Community Health and Common Threads.

Supporting just farms

Supporting organic, just farms with volunteer labor is an important aspect of social justice as we work to change and improve the farming systems.

Our incredible partners include Bellingham Country Gardens, Growing Veterans, Breckenridge Blueberries and Small Potatoes Gleaning Project.

College scholarships

In 2019, Agape began awarding college scholarships for farmworkers pursing higher education as a way to further support the farmworker families. The scholarship recipients are awarded $500.
