Annual Faith Formation Conference

Meeting Diverse Learning and Behavioral Needs in the Catechetical Setting

We know the Gospel message is for everybody, but how can we make it more accessible for children and teens with diverse learning needs and emotional or behavioral challenges?  We will explore what our Church teaches about inclusion of persons with disabilities and learn basic skills that catechists and catechetical leaders can use to ensure that everyone can encounter Christ in our Church. This event is co-sponsored by Our Sunday Visitor.

Presenter
Dr. Joseph White earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, a program recently named “Outstanding Clinical Child Psychology Program” by the American Psychological Association. At the Medical College of Virginia, Dr. White completed a program in the assessment and treatment of childhood neurodevelopmental disabilities. Dr. White’s pre-doctoral internship in clinical child psychology was completed at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, and his post-doctoral fellowship at Scott and White Clinic. Dr. White’s primary areas of focus include adjustment difficulties, coping with anxiety, phobias and traumatic experiences, sensory-behavioral issues, frequent toileting accidents, chronic pain, and concerns about cognitive, social, or emotional development.
